Being a Woman AVAILABLE NOW

It's with extreme joy that I want to announce that our latest book, Being a Women , is available for you to buy.  We have had an incredible journey together at our weekly Girl's Nights and this book is the result.  Together we have explored what it means to be a Godly woman, we have recorded our conversations and opinions and presented them to you in a lovely book.  Also, as an added bonus, Lorah-Kelly had done some awesome photography and added it to our book so we have something pretty to look at too.  A very girly book but don't be fooled, the content is extremely challenging!  There were nights when tears were shed at how hard it can be and nights when much laughter was shared at the pure joy of the journey. Be prepared for an emotional roller coaster ride as you read Being a Woman which is available here in the UK , also in the USA and coming soon to Australia .

The Blessing

Every human needs the gift of "the blessing"—the unconditional love and approval that comes from a healthy relationship with one's parents. So many of us don't even realise that we have missed out on one of God's greatest gifts to us.  The blessing is a life changing book that will help you deal with the lack of blessing in your past, help you gain a new perspective on how God views you which will help you to give the blessing to your loved ones.   I have found this book tremendously practical both in how it communicates the blessing and also in giving ideas for how we can apply the blessing to our life.  If everything that is suggested in this book is applied then I am sure that your life will be dramatically changed, especially in families where words are used without any thought or purpose.  I found myself looking back over my childhood and considered both the positive and negatives that were spoken over me, I was greatly encouraged by what I saw and have fo

A Bug Collection

I recently received this DVD set for free from BookSneeze®.com to review. Max Lucado has done a fantastic job of bringing spiritual principles to life through his Bug Collection stories. It's so much more than children's stories, he really finds a way to tell the truth and teach spiritual principles. My children love these DVD's but I too have been changed through them. As an adult I have been challenged about my identity, my value and my purpose through the cute bug stories. I highly recommend these DVD's to you for your little ones and for yourself, they are available from Amazon :)

50 First Dates

If you asked Ruth what date she got saved she could probably give you 50 dates, although she doesn't remember any of them.  For the past year, every Sunday, without fail, she puts her hand up to accept Jesus as her Lord and Saviour.  It is the most beautiful thing ever!  You see, she had a car accident a few years ago which resulted in her memory not functioning as it should.  So each Sunday, when she hears the gospel, she responds as if it's her first time and accepts Jesus into her life yet again. Have you ever watched the movie, 50 First Dates ? Each day Henry must get Lucy to fall in love with him all over again, and again and again. Henry is completely smitten. But when he takes the big step of seeing her the next day, Lucy does not remember him. As the result of a past car accident, she has no short-term memory. When she wakes up after a night’s sleep, she is completely unaware of the passing of time. It is a beautiful movie that reminds me so much of Ruth. Jesus is c

Becoming You

I would like to introduce one of our King's Daughters Conference speakers to you - she is so lovely, you are just going to love hearing from her!  Her name is Anna and she writes (and speaks) about the stuff that is important to us women in her book "Becoming You". Most of us want to find some reason for being alive. "Becoming You" considers what would happen if we went to God for the answer. What it would mean if God was the someone who had created us, that he did so with a purpose, and that we could find out what that purpose was from him. Part book, part workbook, Anna shares her experiences of seeking God to find out who she was made to be and what her life is for. Like a makeover, it opens with the 'before', as the reader considers the way that she sees herself and ends with the 'after' as she looks at her real self - the woman she is becoming. Ideal for any woman searching for the meaning of life, "Becoming You" looks at the ways

Giveaway - Nevertheless

This is one of my all time favourite books. Nevertheless is John Kirkby’s story of the adventure of starting Christians Against Poverty.  In 1996 John and Lizzie Kirkby set out on a faith adventure. John felt God call him to give up his successful career in the finance industry to do what he could to help the poor and needy in his home town of Bradford.  John did what he was best at and devised simple budgeting systems that allowed people to reduce their debt whilst living a decent life. In doing this John found that he could share the life transforming faith he himself had experienced some four years earlier, and people’s lives were changed before his very eyes.   Get a free copy of this book by leaving a comment about anything that has stretched your faith in the past.  If you would like to support the awesome work of CAP make a donation here or to find out more about how they can help you with your finances go here .

Secure on the Rock - My Redeemer

Being pieced back together Being rescued by my prince Jesus was amazing; it was the most romantic thing that has ever happened to me. I often remember that day, 1 September, with great fondness. My hero, reached down from heaven, and swept me off my feet, rescuing me from the evil clutches of sin and death. He did it with style and flair, with all the things I needed to make it really memorable. He didn’t need to do it that way I am sure He could have done it a million other ways, but He chose to make it memorable in a way that was special to me. Not only does my prince rescue but He also redeems. The word ‘redeem’ means to buy back, trade or exchange. My prince didn’t come down from heaven and steal me back to himself. No! He paid a high price for me. He exchanged His life for mine; He paid for my life with His. Not only did he redeem my life but He also redeemed the lost years from my past and He redeemed my entire future too. He bought back what I had thrown away to the pi

Being a Woman - Wild & Captivating

If you are really serious about your journey with me this year in uncovering the truth about being a woman then I highly recommend these two books to you. Wild at Heart is an amazing book that really helps us to understand the heart and needs of men and how we are so very different to them.  Captivating truly is captivating, once you start reading you won't be able to stop, you will find yourself nodding all through the book as John & Stasi Eldredge uncover the truth of who we are as women.  I have discovered a two in one book on Amazon - a great buy!  If you have read either of these books please let us know what you thought of them?

Unstuff

Tyndale House Publishers provided me with a complimentary copy of this book in order to facilitate an honest review.  At first I didn't feel that the book offered anything new but I decided to keep an open mind as I continued to read.  Surprisingly, even though I can't put my finger on the exact moment, something changed inside of me.  Perhaps it was a deeper awareness of stuff or perhaps it was a changed perspective of stuff.  Never-the-less, whatever it was, it was good.  I didn't think that  I had a problem with stuff, as I lead a simple life, and try to avoid most of the trappings of modern living.  Or so I thought.  It seems I am just like everyone else in many ways and Unstuff really did exposed this in me.    If you want to truly open up your heart to consider whether you have a stuffing problem, then this is the book for you.  Since we are focusing on women this year, I would recommend this book as a great way to take stock of your relationship with stuff.  Stuff is

My Top 3 Books for 2010

Classic Christianity by Bob George: This book completely blew my mind!  The simple thought that we have been preaching only half of the gospel has completely challenged me. Too often we think Jesus came to sort out our sin thought His death, and He did, but that is only half of it.  He also came to give us a new life through His resurrection. One phrase section deeply impacted me. "If you were to see a butterfly, it would never occur to you to say, 'Hey, everybody! Come look at this good looking converted worm!'  Why not? After all, it was a worm.  And it was "converted."  No, now it is a new creature, and you don't think of it in terms of what it was.  You see it as it is now - a butterfly.  In exactly the same way, God sees you as His new creature in Christ. Although you might not always act like a good butterfly - you might land on things you shouldn't, or forget you are a butterfly and crawl around with your old worm buddies - the truth of the matte

Out Live Your Life

If you don't want to be challenged to the core and moved to action, DON'T read this book.  Rather go to Argos to pick up a catalogue and plan your Christmas shopping.  Seriously!  Even a person with the hardest heart imaginable will be moved to tears within minutes of reading  'Out Live Your Life'.  The first two and a half pages, before chapter one even begins, gave me goosebumps! The first chapter caused me to start the Human Trafficking section of my blog because I had no excuse not to. My selfishness has been challenged to the core and my excuses have been obliterated.  I don't know when last a read a book that has impacted me this much and so have decided not to tell you too much more about it, so that you will get a copy for yourself.  Thank you very much Thomas Nelson , for providing me with this book to review.

Hope, Secure, Passion & Giants

It is with great vulnerability, fear & conviction that I am going to slowly start releasing my books on this Blog. I will begin with releasing chapter previews of each of my books that I have written & not been brave enough to publish. God has done such amazing things in my life, He has take me from a place of darkness and filth and showed me His ways. As much as I am embarrassed about where I have come from I would be even more embarrassed if I didn't share what He has done in my life. Your comments and feedback are valuable to me as I will edit and mould my books according to your comments. If you have stories to share that will benefit other readers then please feel free to share them. My only motivation is to bring hope to the lost and dying world that we live in. Please join me on this new journey, perhaps together, we as King's Daughters can make a difference in this world. Love Angela xxx

The Bad News Preacher

I didn’t like the preacher I sat by on the plane. I know, I know. You’re supposed to like everyone, but this fellow …The plane was crowded. It was a Sunday afternoon, and I was tired from Sunday-morning services. I was speaking that evening in Atlanta and had planned on taking a nap on the flight. But this fellow had other ideas. Though he had been assigned another seat, he took the one next to me since it was closer to the front. And when he took it, he took every inch of it—and then some. Knowing I couldn’t sleep, I figured I’d review my thoughts for the evening lesson, so I opened my Bible. “What ya’ studying there, buddy?” I told him, but he never heard. “The church is lost,” he declared. “Hellbound and heartsick.” Turns out he is an evangelist. He speaks in a different church every weekend. “I wake ’em up,” he growled. “Christians are asleep. They don’t pray. They don’t love. They don’t care.” With that pronouncement, he took on his preaching tone and cadence and started listing a

A God Shaped Hole II

"In the effort to make things perfect, a woman can beg her man to be like the one over there. She's hoping that if he could change, she'd finally be whole. When the man feels that he is asked to be something he wasn't ever made to be, when he senses the pressure to meet expectations that seem unattainable, when he wants to fill but doesn't really understand how to pour, after years of talking and trying and talking some more the man can step back in frustration. The woman tries to counter the distance by leaning and desperately asking him for more. And he might try from miles away, but he can't. So he looks across the back yard and wonders if his neighbours woman has these needs. Maybe she doesn't. Maybe a woman like her could appreciate a man like him. And his heart wonders away. And he gives up on romance with the one he has loved and the passion dies. And the heart of the woman who has expected the man to be enough dies with it. The woman is a

Date Night

On date night last week Eric & I went to see Date Night, the movie! I laughed my head off from begining to end. I don't know how a single person would find it but as a married couple you will pick up on each and every joke and have a good chuckle! The story is basically about a couple who are concerned that their married is getting a little dull so they head off for a romantic date night in the city. I will say no more than that, watch the trailer here :)

Balancing Life

Why is it so very hard to find the balance in life? I have been working at this since June last year when I started my Less is More series & I still can't say that I lead a balanced life. I have achieved balance with FaceBook which has been amazing - I have taken back a huge portion of my life by doing that. I have sorted out my priorities which is a great guide when making decisions. "No" has become an easy word for me to say where before I found it almost impossible for me to say no to people. I am enjoying my life & am pursuing my dreams yet I still feel that my life is unbalanced. There are days when I find I am not spending enough time with my children, days when I don't take care of Eric's needs & days when I just plain don't take care of myself! These are my top priorities which I have worked so hard to keep on top but yet I can't achieve the balance I desire. Any suggestions... do I need to cut out the things I love doing like my r

Stepford Wives

When Eric brought this movie home for us to watch I was really nervous about watching it - I really thought it was going to be rubbish. Usually Eric has excellent taste in movies so put this bad choice down to the fact that he was a bit ill! Well as the old saying goes - don't judge a book by it's cover. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, it was not at all what I expected based on the "cover". A very entertaining movie with a great message at the end - we don't need to be perfect. Funnily enough this even fit the theme of our day ha ha, I was having one of those days when I just didn't feel good enough as a wife. All the things the wives did in the movie is exactly what most men would like their wives to be like & what we as wives would like to be like. Never-the-less our husbands love us even though we are not perfect all the time. Now Eric & I have a nice personal joke between us - he says to me; "You don't need to be a Stepford wife"

The Guardian

The Guardian is fantstic movie with Kevin Costner & Ashton Kutcher. Ben Randall (Kevin Costner) plays a rescue swimmer in the USA Coast Guard & Jake Fischer (Ashton Kutcher) is one of his trainees. After losing his entire team in an accident, Ben is sent to teach at "A" School, an elite training program for Coast Guard Rescue Swimmers. Wrestling with his loss & frustration of not being in the water, he throws himself into teaching, turning the program upside down & picking on Jake for his attitude. After doing some background checks, Ben begins to understand Jake & takes him under his wing. Upon graduation, Jake follows Randall to Kodiak, Alaska, where they bravely face the dangers of the Bering Sea. Great movie but I wouldn't recommend watching it with little children as the rescue scenes could be a bit scary. for them Have you watched any good movies lately that you would like to tell us about?

Free Book - Affect Destiny

I am a huge fan on UCB as they provide us with such good high quality material & it's all free. Usually when you hear of free stuff you think it's probably low quality - but not at UCB. We have stunning daily devotional material called Word for Today which we get from UCB & give to our Church. They also have great material for youngsters & teens. I really enjoy all that UCB do & most of all the way they do it - with excellence. Recently I finished reading Affect Destiny which is about the man that started it all & his journey. It is incredible to see what God has done though him & how easy it is to reach & impact the world. I don't mean easy in that the journey is easy, I mean it is easy to get started. Many times people wait for a the big call from God from heaven so that they can get started in doing their something significant in this world. It seldom works that way. Usually it is one small step of obedience which is very often not gl

Looking for the Messiah

SUPPOSE JESUS CAME to your church. I don’t mean symbolically. I mean visibly. Physically. Actually. Suppose he came to your church. Would you recognize him? It might be difficult. Jesus didn’t wear religious clothes in his day. Doubtful that he would wear them in ours. If he came today to your church, he’d wear regular clothes. Nothing fancy, just a jacket and shoes and a tie. Maybe a tie … maybe not. He would have a common name. “Jesus” was common. I suppose he might go by Joe or Bob or Terry or Elliot. Elliot … I like that. Suppose Elliot, the Son of God, came to your church. Of course, he wouldn’t be from Nazareth or Israel. He’d hail from some small spot down the road like Hollow Point or Chester City or Mt. Pleasant. And he’d be a laborer. He was a carpenter in his day. No reason to think he’d change, but let’s say he did. Let’s say that this time around he was a plumber. Elliot, the plumber from Mt. Pleasant. Rumor has it that he fed a football field full of people near the lake.
