Something Girly

Strength and Dignity by Box Polish

I thought that since it is only 18 days to go until our conference, eeek, I would do something a bit special and girly for us!  One of the lovely Women's Business Club ladies who is also a King's Daughter, has started making her own polishes.   They are being launched this Saturday, 6th September. It's all very exciting and King's Daughters have ordered their very own special colour called Strength and Dignity. In celebration of our upcoming conference Amy has very kindly given us a polish as a free gift.  So, enter the competition below and the new polish will be given away at the conference to one lucky winner. Don't worry, if you cannot make it we will post it to you. UK residents only please.

All Your Life

Last week Lorah and I had the most amazing morning together at All Your Life in Cheltenham. Let me start at the very beginning! We arrived at the beautiful reception and were whisked away into the lounge where we were given a glass of bubbly. This is the before photo!

Before...

Then we were invited to use the Fat Burning Room to experience the Vibrating Power Plates! Well, there is no photo of this as I really don't want you to see all my fat wobbling about. It's was fun but at the same time I could really feel the plates working my muscles. You are shown a chart with various exercises that you can do on the plates to target particular muscle groups or you can just stand on the plates and giggle! Mostly, Lorah and I just giggled. We were then take to the fishy room our fish pedicure. I honestly didn't know that I would have such a problem with putting my feet in the tank. Usually I am up for trying just about anything, but when it came to the crunch, I found it difficult to put my feet in a tank full of fish. After some shrieking and splashing, I rested my heal in the tank and got used to the idea. After some time, it began to feel like my kitten licking my feet so in my mind I visualised my kitten and not the fish. Slowly but surely, my feet went into the water and I allowed the fish to eat off all the dead skin. After a few minutes I got used to it and began to enjoy the pedicure. However, Lorah never did manage to get her feet in the tank, she giggled and shrieked most of the time, so she still cannot say that she has had a fish pedicure! Here are our feet being eaten by lots of little fish, well actually mine only - notice where Lorah's feet are.

What happened next was the best thing EVER! We were taken through to the Medical Massage Beds.  There are no words to describe how wonderful these beds are.  We lay in a candle lit room with beautiful fragrances all around.  As I lay on the bed (fully clothed just in case you are wondering) I felt it warm up on my lower back, shoulders and calves and then little studded rubber pads began vibrating, systematically working from my neck and shoulders down to my feet.  It was so unbelievably relaxing and we were even provided with soft fluffy blankets that we could snuggle under if we wanted to sleep.  I snuggled under a blanket and was so disappointed when our half an hour was up.

We were then collected by our own private Make-up Artists and Beauty Therapist for our make-over.  We had our hair, nails and make-up done and left for the studio feeling like new women.

Our photographer was so lovey and made us feel natural in front of the camera.  Here are some sneeky photos of him in action.

After three wardrobe changes and many poses and props, we were whisked away yet again for a lovely lunch which we ate while viewing our photos. Of course, we giggled all the way through it and were then faced with the choice of narrowing down which ones we would keep. Below are some of the many photos from our fantastic day at All Your Life, Cheltenham. I highly recommend you go along and enjoy a fun filled pamper experience yourself. And, one very fortunate King's Daughter will get to enjoy all this for free! Enter the raffle below.

Cupcakes

King's Daughters, cupcakesEveryone knows I LOVE cupcakes!  These are some cupcakes that I made ages ago but want to bring them to your attention for the Range Cookers Competition so I can win a new cooker - and so can you, enter here.  I used a regular chocolate cake recipe replacing the cocoa with half a cup of flour and thought all would be well. Sadly it seems not, so was hoping to get some feedback from all you King's Daughters :)

The recipe I used was as follows:
175g margarine
1 3/4 cups sugar
3 eggs
2 1/2 cups SR flour
1 cup milk

I mixed this all together then baked at 180 degrees and fully expected nice big yummy cupcakes. They looked lovely in the oven but when they cooled they sank and had little peaks in the middle - looked like little volcanic mountains without the hole on top. So what went wrong? Was it the recipe, the baking temperature, my very old over or just me? I would love to hear your suggestions or even a better recipe.  One of my favourite cupcakes recipes is this one from the BBC website.   Happy Saturday, have fun making cupcakes - oh, and if you have any recipes for cupcakes without sugar please leave the recipe in the comment box below.

Giveaway - Nevertheless

This is one of my all time favourite books. Nevertheless is John Kirkby’s story of the adventure of starting Christians Against Poverty.  In 1996 John and Lizzie Kirkby set out on a faith adventure. John felt God call him to give up his successful career in the finance industry to do what he could to help the poor and needy in his home town of Bradford.  John did what he was best at and devised simple budgeting systems that allowed people to reduce their debt whilst living a decent life. In doing this John found that he could share the life transforming faith he himself had experienced some four years earlier, and people’s lives were changed before his very eyes.

Get a free copy of this book by leaving a comment about anything that has stretched your faith in the past.  If you would like to support the awesome work of CAP make a donation here or to find out more about how they can help you with your finances go here.

CD Update & Giveaway

FINALLY, after a long wait, King's Square will be released on 4th September. It has been an incredible journey with a great deal of excitement along the way. Already we have had a great number of iTunes downloads and great reviews about this CD in the newpapers. The cherry on top of the cake was the recent BBC Radio interview which Samuel, Lorah & I had the privilege of attending! In order to celebrate the upcoming release I would like to give you the opportunity to have your own copy. Just leave your name and email address in the comment box and I will randomly choose one person to give our lovely CD to :)
